HeyJoob Birthday Month Giveaway #2 – Coconut Oil!!

On April 12, 2012 by Juliet

Thanks everyone for entering HeyJoob Birthday Month Giveaway #1! I emailed the winners  this morning and they have until 5PM EST tomorrow to respond. Should you ladies fail to do so, I’ll pick another person, but I hope you answer!

Now on to Giveaway #2 of the month. I’d like to say this one is from me, but that’s a blatant lie. Tropical Traditions sent me a free quart of their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil to review and giveaway one jar to a lucky winner.

If you’ve been following my blog for any amount of time, you know I’m pretty much freaking in LOVE with coconut oil. To the point where I eat it of the spoon. In fact, that’s how I tested this stuff.

I opened it. I took out a spoonful. I ate it straight.
It’s phenomenal.

Like, had to force myself to close the jar after tasting it phenomenal.

I’m not one to go plugging other people’s products if I don’t like them, so know that I mean it about this stuff. For example, I’d been using Lou Anna for months and never understood what the big deal was with coconut oil on blogs. Why? Because Lou Anna blows. It’s totally tasteless and the only purpose I can see it serving is as a skin lotion or something. (Tropical Traditions definitely did NOT tell me to say that)

Here’s a video they told me to link. See. I tell you the stuff they say.

Pretty much, coconut oil ought to be a staple in everyone’s kitchen and I am a big proponent of buying the highest quality you can afford. The lower the quality, the less benefits you reap from it and the less taste it has. Moreover, aside from being glorious and delicious, it is a fantastic cooking oil. The fatty acid chains are predominantly saturated (YES – SATURATED), it can cook at higher heats than, say, EVOO or freaking narsty canola oil.

For the record, you should never cook with EVOO (…even though I roast veggies in it….). And don’t get me started on canola oil! That sh*t is pure garbage and highly processed. Get it out of your kitchen, right now. Just throw it away. Along with your vegetable oil.

If saturated fats still scare you: 1) get over it 2) you’re about 10 years behind in the nutritional world 3) they ain’t gonna give you a heart attack. Well, they might if you’re eating them with a ton of refined carbohydrates.

I’m digressing. The point is, this stuff is the creme de la creme of coconut oil and you can win a jar for free-skees. In order to do so, though, I need to leave you all these fun scavenger-hunt-esque tasks to perform.

Are you going to do a recap of your overall experience with Whole30? (besides just the recipes!) I’m curious to see what the results were in terms of changes in your weight/measurements as well as whether it affected your energy levels, lifts, well-being and whether or not you liked eating this way overall!

    • http://heyjoob.com Juliet

Hey Shannon! I *may* do one. To give you a brief answer though… I didn’t take any before or after measurements and I don’t weigh myself anymore. Part of doing my Whole30 was to repair my relationship with my body and food. It did wonders for both of those :) I loved the experience and felt amazing during and after!

I’m pretty in love with Coconut Oil too, but I’ve only bought what I’ve found at my local Whole Foods, I haven’t tried this brand! Cooking anything in coconut oil makes it better in my book — I cooked some sweet potatoes in it the other day and almost fell off my chair it was so good. Also, I love your points about saturated fat: “get over it” HA! Totally over it.
