GTP – Gym, Tan, Paleo.
This post is not ordered as the title would imply.
Life will be a whirlwind of nuts for me these next few weeks. I apologize for my lack of internet presence… Right now I’m coasting through my last few weeks at work, packing up my apartment, finding a place to live (still need to do that), moving 500 miles away in my new apartment, traveling some, and starting graduate school. Phew.
This past week I was in NJ with Seth visiting the parentals and apartment shopping. Evidently, most landlords/property management companies don’t appreciate Morgan like we at Hey Joob do.
I also managed to get some of that good old Vitamin D.
My arms look so big there. SIKE! Just my left arm does. I only train one side – it’s the cool thing to do.
Training
First and foremost, I found a new pair of New Balance Minimuses at Nordstrom Rack for $40. WAHH I had to buy them. Especially because they were in the color I had originally wanted.
Second, last week concluded my training with Rog. The man is a saint. A SAINT! (READ: Hire him if you’re looking for a coach.) Before we started working together, my training had become seriously lackluster. I was dreading doing what I had once loved more than life itself. No bueno!
Rog got me out of my comfort zone and reminded me of all the other things I could be doing to keep my training enjoyable.I think, most of all, I realized I was being short sighted. I was cycling through exercises I was comfortable with, with the same ol’ rep ranges. Sure, I was making progress, but I wasn’t having fun.
These past few weeks, not only did I have fun, but I deadlifted 225×1 and squatted 135×1. This is the most I’ve managed in a longLONG time and I’m pretty pumped about it. To keep my enthusiasm up, I am definitely going to make an effort to switch my training around and try new things. Ben Bruno posted this gem (Eccentric One Leg Squats) this morning and I can’t wait to try it.
I’ll probably fall over and break something.
At least I’ll fall over and break something in good lookin’ shoes.
Speaking of looking good, I did arm isolation work for the first time in like a year (?) this week. I don’t actually have a problem with isolation work, per se. It has a time and a place but it doesn’t suit my goals so I don’t do it. Seth and I were training at a gym in Jerz Saturday and we finished our workout by being bro’s together. We did skullcrushers and 21′s.
In between fits of giggles, I tried to grunt and hiss.
I don’t think our fellow gym goers saw the humor in it.
I’m really sad we didn’t think to curl in the squat rack. The first gym we tried only had 1 squat rack and 1 barbell. We should have curled in that one. Alas, we just shared it and squatted together like best friends.
Paleo
Oh yeah. I’ve been sucking about being paleo. I’m not really married to the idea of paleo, to be honest. I love it and I feel fantastic when I stick to it, but I refuse to become a zealot for anything. Anyway, I’ve been slipping in my paleo ways lately. Not around the house, but mostly just desserts and gnarly sweet cravings.
And wine. OH THE WINE! There has been lots of it. And I didn’t drink coffee today and had bad caffeine headaches all day. Shit.
Sooooooo, as inspired by Christina, I’m doing another paleo challenge. Not as strict as the Whole30 since I need to juggle goodbye food outings and a 500 mi move, but as close as I can be. No. I’m not documenting this one.
