Obligatory December 31st Post (Whole30 Kickoff!)

On December 31, 2012 by Juliet

It’s December 31st and that means I owe you a post filled with all the ‘bests’ of 2012, some reminiscing, what I’ve learned, how I’ve grown, and what I plan to do in the new year. I’ve thought about all those things on my own, but I’m not so sure I should share them with the public right away, or ever.

You already know that stress reduction is going to be a huge theme for me, so you’ll likely see many a post regarding that. Sorry to maintain some level of mystery around it, I don’t mean to, but I haven’t quite fully worked out some of the things I want to incorporate outside of meditation, journaling, and food.  Even meditation is something I want to read up more on.

Food though?
I can handle food.

Tomorrow kicks off the January 1st Whole30. For those of you unfamiliar with it, let me point you in the direction of the creators at the Whole9:

Also, if you haven’t read It Starts With Food, get on it. It’s an utterly incredible source and puts good eating into terms everyone can understand.

Here are some other kickoff blog posts from around the web:

Now…

What about me? What can you get from me? Well, honestly, not a lot that you can’t get from these other folks, but I’m going to do my best! As per request, there will be a number of motivational posts throughout the month in addition to plenty of photos of food… which means I need to start trying recipes. That’s always fun because I’m a hot mess in the kitchen ;)

But that’s not all! (so sales pitchy)

If you decide to participate, Ape (of Reshape with Ape) and I are teaming up on this one and made a…wait for it….WAIT…..!!!!

A FACEBOOK GROUP.

Surprised ya there, didn’t I? Unless you saw my post on Facebook, then you aren’t surprised at all.  Anyway, in addition to the group as a place to post photos, recipes, ask questions, and generally discuss, April and I are hosting a giveaway each. For those actively participating in the group, April will be drawing randomly to giveaway a Well Fed bracelet on January 7.

Well Fed Bracelet

I, however, am an a**hole and like to make people earn free stuff.

If you make it the full 30 days, participating in the group and keep us up to date on what you’re going through (both the ups AND downs), I’ll draw randomly for a winner to receive a copy of Well Fed. I don’t actually own Well Fed myself, so I’m buying a copy for me and one lucky winner as a CONGRATS for finishing!

The drawing for this will be on January 31, 2013.

Heck yes, I decided early this morning to kick off my year with a Whole30 as well, so I’ll be following along with you! Happy New Year! <3

HOT DAMN LADY! Taking things up a notch? How are things working for you? I know you’ve been dabbling in ‘paleo’ for a while <3

Loved this book. Although I can’t see myself doing the challenge (it would stress me out, thus negating the effects :-P ) I do try to stand by its principles. I also really want to pick up a copy of Well Fed! I just can’t decide whether I want the tangible book or the Kindle copy :)

The book is fabulous, but I totally understand the ‘stress’ factor (striving for perfection). They (the Whole9) wrote a great piece, linked above, about the ‘perfect whole30′ concept. It does add a little stress, but the amount of stress it alleviated overall last time was so much greater than the little bit of stress from the challenge (it stopped my binge eating).

I thought the same thing about Well Fed! I think I want the tangible book, though, since it’s a cook book.

I’m definitely on board for this! I feel awful since having a week of ‘normal’ eating – I miss my (mostly) Paleo eating. I wanted to do the Whole30 initially, but I ran out of time to do all the reading. I know what I will be doing on my day off tomorrow!
